I binged watched several sessions of #WomanUnleashed yesterday and today as today is the last day the sessions are available. This retreat has changed my life. I have more physical and creative energy, more courageous, and I dance now…all the time…for no reason at all. I am so incredibly grateful to Amber Kuileimailani Bonnici for the time, energy, and heart she put into bringing Woman Unleashed to us, and I am so grateful to all the teachers who offered their gifts of knowledge, time, and energy to us as well. The experience was magical.
For today’s sketchbook practice, I created my Wild Woman Unleashed who is a culmination of all the sessions I’ve watched, but especially influenced by the #ownskin (Monique DeBose), #wombwhisperer (Phoenix Na Gig), #chakradance (Natalie Southgate), #abundantwealth (Corrina Steward), #sensualfreedom (Jena La Flamme), and #wuclosing (Amber Kuileimailani Bonnici) sessions. All pure magic…
Today I watched Heidi Easley’s free #WomanUnleashed #PaintedPrayers session. I liked the idea of painting a prayer or quote that you really want to remember and embody. I also liked her discussion on paint parties. They sound like a wonderful way to get women together to create.
For today’s sketchbook practice, I painted a poem that comes back to me again and again and holds deep meaning for me. The poem is Rumi’s “Don’t Go Back to Sleep.” There are various versions on the Web, but the version below I pulled from my copy of The Essential Rumi.
I used acrylic paint for the background in yellow and then metallic black, silver, and gold. I also used a star stencil on the background. I then used a mix of white gel and paint pens to scribe the poem. In the lower corner, I used gel pens to signify a rising dawn.
Today I watched Bex Burton‘s free #WomanUnleashed Embody Your Blueprint session and WOW! The combination of body movement and calling in my dreams was incredible. I loved the four quadrants (Health, Love/Relationships, Career/Finances, and Spirit) we visited during the session, and I realized I have a very clear vision for each of them in my life. So, it is not that I don’t know what I want to create in my life, it’s that I don’t believe I can have it, or even deeper, I don’t believe I am deserving or worthy of receiving it.
Bex Burton’s session also included writing about your future as if it is already here using the #EmbodyBlueprint Time Machine Exercise. I lit my Yo Soy “I Am Grounded” candle, turned on Ludovico Einaudi’s album “Elements,” and as I was writing, a vision kept building and building. I stopped writing several times to make quick sketches at the top of the page to capture the vision as it evolved.
So, for today’s sketchbook practice, I brought that vision to life on the page along with the message that came through: “The paths, once dark, are now illuminated.”
Today I watched Shiloh Sophia’s free #WomanUnleashed Our Lady of #SelfBlessing session. The session was empowering and really helped me connect to my inner self. I used the session for my daily sketchbook practice, and what came out of the session was my Inner Wild Woman, and her message: Be Wild! You’ve conformed for far too long!
A few days back, I watched Lou Reed’s free #WomanUnleashed #ManifestingIntuitively session. I really connected with her session, and especially her #FlowerofLife exercise. Her free gift from the session was her year-long Art of Manifesting Quest, so I signed up.
This week I started the Quest, and the art prompt was to create a safe container for the work I would be doing. So, for my sketchbook practice today, I chose to create my own journal, mixing various types of sketch paper with watercolor and Bristol paper. I then stitched it together with waxed thread. I then followed the assignment by selecting images and words that spoke to me and gluing them onto the front and back covers I had created. After completing the covers, I spent some time with the images and words I had put together to find any hidden messages. It was such an insightful exercise that brought so many connections that I never would have seen otherwise. So much fun!
Today I watched Shereen Sun’s free #WomanUnleashed #IntuitiveWriting session. Shereen took us through an intuitive writing process using oracle cards (or whatever is in front of you) as a starting off point. I have done this before, but I’ve always looked at the messages first. This time I let just the images speak to me.
What I found a little eerie and cool is that many specific words came up in my intuitive writing sessions and on my personally selected oracle cards that then came up in the video discussion. Goosebumps… Even as I write about this more and more connections between my own writing, the video discussions, and the oracle cards are coming to me. More goosebumps… I’m finding this happening a lot with the Woman Unleashed videos. Like we’re all on the same wavelength or something.
I decided after the video I would draw something based on three words from the session that were highly energized for me: Sun, Goddess, and Lessons. Sun was particularly potent as I pulled The Sun card in the second writing session and the author’s name includes Sun. I envisioned in my mind a Sun Goddess and began to sketch what I saw. Then I pulled out my PanPastels. They are one of my favorite mediums to work with. I intuitively added color and had to quiet my logical mind’s input several times in order to hear my intuition. What emerged was not what I imagined but was fascinating nonetheless.
The card I had pulled for the first writing session was the Sacred Fool from the Sacred Rebels deck. My first response was fear. Was I being a fool following my art practice? Should I be doing something else? I wanted so much to read the message that came with card so I could know for sure, but I knew it was time to listen to my own voice.
What I heard was that I let fear control me when fear is so small compared to who I am. My life has been controlled by foolish beliefs that don’t serve me. The voice said that I often react to things negatively first (worst case scenario catastrophizing) then later try to find the positive. It asked me how I might interpret this card as positive. Then a message came through clearly: “Be the fool. Go after your dream. See how small your fears are. You are the one controlling the fears. They are not controlling you.”
I find it interesting then, that what emerged from my sketchbook session today is not the Sun Goddess I set out to create, but is instead clearly my own Sacred Fool. Goosebumps anyone?
Yesterday I listened to Lynn Andrew’s free #WomanUnleashed session, Writing Spirit. In the session she discussed the Writer’s Wheel which could also be called a life wheel or solve a problem wheel. I loved Lynn Andrews’ explanation on how we can use the wheel to stand in the center and identify where we are at (south), where we want to be & what practices we can implement to get there (west), look to spirit for inspiration and direction (north), and then evaluate what is and isn’t possible/feasible for us (east). I loved how she talked about starting in the south and then gathering information, practices, inspiration from the west and the north before encountering the critic in the east. Many of us start in the east with the inner critic and never make it any further around the wheel. I think it might be a useful trick to appease the inner critic by letting it know its concerns will only be addressed when its time comes and not before – that time being after all other directions – south, west, and north have been fully addressed. One step I took towards the west was applying for a scholarship to attend a workshop that I believe will help with getting me unstuck in my novel writing. For my sketchbook entry today, I drew an elaborate wheel in pencil and included important notes from the session. I had intended to then copy it all over in ink, but after adding watercolor to the page, I liked the pencil in the background. So, I decided to ink just a few things and then leave the rest in pencil.
I am not feeling well today, so I took the opportunity to sit back, relax, and watch a couple of the #WomanUnleashed videos. My sketchbook entry for today comes from Whitney Freya’s #WatercolorCourage session.
I thought a lot about what I wanted to do after #FindYourFlow ended. I decided to take Tamara Laporte’s Ever After 2018. It’s a four-month course that covers creating different fairytale characters from new and empowering perspectives. I’m SO excited to take the plunge and commit to a four month program. With the program, I will also be working on developing my own personal style which is equally exciting.
For today’s art, I completed Tamara Laporte’s free #WomanUnleashed session #MermaidVoice. I love what I created today, and it lets me know I’ve made the right decision joining the #EverAfter2018 course.
